The 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is all set to be a cinematic spectacle as it gears up to celebrate global cinema between November 20 and 28, 2024, in Goa, with an exciting lineup of new initiatives and moves.
This year, Asian premiere will open the festival with the semi-autobiographical film on pop icon Robbie Williams, directed by Michael Gracey named “Better Man”. The movie’s groundbreaking motion capture promise will definitely give the public a once-in-a-lifetime experience, with Williams’ life — including his stints in fame and personal struggles — on a completely open display and in an unveiled manner.
IFFI is evolving, inclusive and innovative. Several new sections are introduced this year, such as the “Best Debut Indian Film” category to focus on new filmmakers with new narratives.
“Rising Stars” will celebrate new directors, while “Mission Life” will highlight environment and eco-friendly cinema.
The other highlight is the “Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award” to veteran Australian filmmaker Phillip Noyce for impactful works like “Rabbit-Proof Fence” and “Salt”.
His recognition coincides with Australia being the country of focus for this year’s festival and will present a carefully curated selection of films from that country.
The festival will screen more than 180 international films from 81 countries, with 15 world premieres and a multitude of Asian and Indian premieres. The “Indian Panorama” section will have a precious bouquet of films representing India’s rich cultural diversity.
IFFI 2024 will also have masterclasses and discussions by industry legends like A.R. Rahman and Shabana Azmi.
IFFI this year will also focus on amplifying the underrepresented voices of cinema, besides providing 47 films by women directors and 66 works by young and debut filmmakers.
More importantly, the theme of the festival is “Young Filmmakers – The Future is Now,” which helps provide younger and emerging voices a greater platform to prove themselves in this industry. “BEST DEBUT INDIAN DIRECTOR”: It’s a new category that will honour new talent around the nation of India.
Having diverse film lineups, engaging events, and focusing on fresh talent, IFFI 2024 promises to be a great celebration of global cinema and creativity.
From film enthusiasts and industry professionals to aspiring professionals interested in the future of cinema, this festival will be a singular opportunity for you to experience visionary storytelling and see aspects of other worlds.
