Movies and series international database portal IMDb has revealed a list of top movies and series from the year 2022. On the movies front, four out of ten movies are superhero films from Marvel and DC. And there are some interesting titles on the top ten series list as well. Here is a list of IMDb’s top ten movies and series titles from 2022 along with their synopsis and OTT platforms in India.

IMDb’s Top 10 Movies of 2022:

10. X (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)

Helmed by Ti West and set in the year 1979, the slasher horror movie revolves around a bunch of young filmmakers who are trying to make an adult film in a rural region of Texas. But the story takes a U-turn after they start getting killed one by one by unlikely killers.

9. Death on the Nile (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)

Helmed by Kenneth Branagh, the mystery film is based on Agatha Christie’s well-known 1937 novel. Branagh reprises his role as the legendary Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, who must use his brilliant skills to identify the murderer of an affluent heiress. The whodunnit also features Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Ali Fazal, Annette Benning, and Tom Bateman, amongst others.

8. Everything Everywhere All at Once (Not Streaming in India)

The multiverse action-adventure movie revolves around a worn-out Chinese American immigrant (Michelle Yeoh), who must somehow connect with multiple versions of herself from a different universe to stop a powerful person from wreaking havoc across the multiverse.

7. The Gray Man (Streaming on Netflix)

Based on the 2009 novel of the same name written by Mark Greaney, the film revolves around an old-timer CIA mercenary Court Gentry (Ryan Gosling) who becomes the target of his own organization after learning about its dark secrets. Consequently, he is pursued by his psychopath ex-colleague Lloyd Hansen (played by Chris Evans), leaving him with no other option than to become a fugitive. Helmed by Russo Brothers, the movie also features Indian actor Dhanush and Ana de Armas.

6. The Northman (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)

Helmed by Robert Eggers (The Lighthouse) and inspired from Norse mythology, The action-packed revenge movie features Alexander Skarsgard as prince Amleth, whose father King Aurvandill (Ethan Hawke) is brutally murdered by the Amleth’s uncle, who also kidnaps his mother – Queen Gudrun (Nicole Kidman). Twenty years later, the young boy transforms into a formidable Viking warrior and is hellbent on avenging the death of his father and to get his mother and kingdom back from his uncle. It also features Anya Taylor-Joy, Claes Bang, and Willem Dafoe, amongst others.

5. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (Not Streaming in India)

The Marvel superhero movie directed by Ryan Coogler focuses on how Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku, Okoye and the Dora Milaje fight against world powers to protect their nation following the death of King T’Challa.

4. Top Gun: Maverick (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, YouTube, Google Play – Rent)

Helmed by Joseph Kosinski, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is set thirty years after the events of the 1986 parent film ‘Top Gun’ by Tony Scott. Tom Cruise is now a brave test pilot and a flight instructor. He trains a batch of Top Gun graduates for a special mission where he meets pilot trainee Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Miller), who is the son of Maverick’s best friend and former naval flight officer Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw.

3. Thor: Love and Thunder (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)

Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) search for inner peace is hampered by a formidable villain Gorr the God butcher (Christian Bale), who is hellbent on eliminating all Gods. Now, the Asgardian God of Thunder must team up with King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and former girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) to stop this new threat from wreaking havoc.

2. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)

Helmed by ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘Evil Dead’ director Sam Raimi, the sequel film follows the adventures of the titular superhero Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), who tries to save a mysterious young girl named America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) who has the ability to travel between multiple parallel universes. But to protect her, he must team up with powerful allies to face a formidable enemy.

1. The Batman (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)

Helmed by Matt Reeves and set during the second year of Batman’s crime-fighting endeavors, the movie stars Robert Pattinson as the billionaire masked vigilante and protector of Gotham City. When the city’s privileged class begins to become the victims of a ruthless serial killer Riddler (Paul Dano), Batman must decipher the clues left behind by the killer and unearth the corruption in Gotham City. The film also features Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as Penguin.

10. Inventing Anna (Streaming on Netflix)

The miniseries is inspired by an article by Jessica Pressler which was published in America’s New York magazine. It follows a journalist’s investigation into a woman named Anna Delvey, who was able to manipulate New York’s affluent class into believing that she is a German heiress.

9. Ozark (Streaming on Netflix)

‘Ozark’ is a Netflix crime drama series which features Jason Bateman as a Chicago-based financial advisor and also stars Laura Linney as Bateman’s wife. The Primetime Emmy award-winning show’s underlying plot follows a family with kids who relocate to the Ozarks in Missouri for money laundering activities.

8. The Sandman (Streaming on Netflix)

Based on Neil Gaiman’s comic book of the same name, the fantasy drama series follows the story of the king of Dreams – Dream / Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), who escapes from his more than 100 years of captivity and makes it his mission to reclaim what was lost to him and to regain his power.

7. Moon Knight (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)

The six-part show revolves around a mercenary and ex-US marine named Marc Spector aka Moon Knight (played by Oscar Isaac). He is suffering from dissociative identity disorder and is bestowed with the powers of the Egyptian moon god Khonshu. The series also features Ethan Hawke as a cult leader and May Calamawy as an archaeologist and Mark Spector’s wife.

6. The Boys (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)

A satirical take on popular comic-book superheroes, the show is set in a world where superheroes are adored by people. They are being managed by a corrupt, multi-billion-dollar organization named Vought. The plot follows another group of titular vigilantes ‘The Boys’, who are hellbent on destroying those superheroes who abuse their superpowers. The ragtag team is led by the disgruntled Billy Butcher who is after Vought’s most powerful superhero team ‘The Seven’ led by the indestructible megalomaniac Homelander.

5. Euphoria (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)

An adaptation of an Israeli show of the same name, ‘Euphoria’ features ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ actress Zendaya in the lead role of a troubled teenager named Rue Bennett, who portrays a recovering drug addict trying to find a place in society. The show narrates the goings-on in the eventful lives of a batch of high school students as they deal with various issues.

4. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video)

Based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel ‘The Lord of the Rings’, the epic fantasy series takes place thousands of years before the events of the book and Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit’. The series would focus on the legends pertaining to major events that happened in the fabled Second Age of Middle Earth.

3. Better Call Saul (Streaming on Netflix)

Set in the same universe as the cult crime show ‘Breaking Bad’, its critically acclaimed successor ‘Better Call Saul’ narrates the backstory of the titular protagonist Saul Goodman. The plot revolves around an ex-conman Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) and how he transforms into a morally corrupt criminal defence attorney.

2. House of the Dragon (Streaming on Disney+ Hotstar)

The series is based on George R. R. Martin’s 2018 fantasy novel ‘Fire & Blood’ and the goings-on takes place around two centuries before the events of ‘Game of Thrones’ and revolves around the beginning of the end of House Targaryen.

1. Stranger Things (Streaming on Netflix)

The initial story, set in the 1980s, revolves around a young boy’s disappearance and the ensuing investigation by his mother, police chief, and his friends amidst supernatural events. The sci-fi horror series (latest season) follows the aftereffects of the devastating Battle of Starcourt at the Hawkins town in Indiana. The show’s young protagonists are now living separately and trying to move on in their lives. At this juncture, a long-buried, supernatural threat that connects everything, emerges on Earth and the Upside Down.
