Indian Police Force Shreds Rohit Shetty’s Reputation To Bits

Indian Police Force Shreds Rohit Shetty’s Reputation To Bits

Popular Bollywood director Rohit Shetty made his streaming debut today with the Prime Video series ‘Indian Police Force’. Sadly, for both Prime Video and Rohit Shetty, the series has received exceptionally poor reviews and abysmally low ratings. Most people on social media have even gone as far as to call it the worst series ever made in India.

In the midst of all the poor reviews for Indian Police Force, one fact sticks out like a sore thumb – the severe criticism directed at Rohit Shetty, the creator-director of the series. Bollywood fans collectively agree that, with Indian Police Force, Rohit Shetty has lost all the goodwill he had painstakingly built up over the years with his repertoire of cop movies – both the Singham movies, Simmba, and later, Sooryavanshi.

The criticism pouring out on social media against Rohit Shetty after Indian Police Force is swifter and more severe than even his 2022 dud film, Cirkus. Most people are of the opinion that Rohit Shetty has simply lost the plot, and should refrain from making cop movies, aka the CopVerse, for some time. Others are calling Indian Police Force the start of Rohit Shetty’s downfall. Still others have labeled the series “Rohit Shetty’s worst product till date, worse than even Cirkus”.

All of the above makes us ponder that the only thing Rohit Shetty has gotten from his OTT debut is to see his filmmaking reputation being shredded to bits. The fact is that the Rohit Shetty style of filmmaking and storytelling is only meant for the big screen. The larger the screen, the more larger-than-life is the impact of his content.

Any reducing of the size of the screen — and wham — the impact of his content is smashed to smithereens. Content for the streaming space needs immersive, intimate storytelling, not the lavishly mounted, grand extravaganzas that are the hallmark of Rohit Shetty’s brand of content.

The severe backlash directed at Indian Police Force and Rohit Shetty may have been unexpected and unanticipated. But believe us — it will continue to happen if Rohit Shetty sticks to his decidedly foolish plan of making more seasons of Indian Police Force without tweaking his filmmaking style to suit the medium.

Police procedurals on the small screen need the Delhi Crime treatment – not the Singham brand of bombast. Rohit Shetty better shape up to it or ship out of the space, back to his playing field – the big screen of cinemas.
