Politics has always been a part of the media. We have seen newspapers being the mouthpiece of their masters to TV news anchors screaming and propagating certain political ideologies.
Some movies have also shown their specific alignment but by that time, we have learnt that subtlety is more powerful than the “obvious”.
On Sunday, the Dravidar Kazhagam launched the Periyar Vision OTT platform. The event was attended by Thoothukudi MP and DMK leader K. Kanimozhi, actor Sathyaraj, artist Trotsky Marudhu, Kali Poongundran, and DK president K. Veeramani.
The Periyar Vision OTT platform will feature content addressing superstitions related to religion, interviews with prominent political leaders, discussions on rationalism, films, short films, documentaries, and other programs. The goal is to spread Periyar’s ideology.
So this might be one of the first, if not the first OTT apps dedicated to the spread of political ideologies. Who knows, there must be some other agendas developing their political OTT platforms.
However, we doubt the effectiveness of it. If all the work this OTT platform would do is to promote the ideology of Periyar then people will soon get bored of it. Movies like Sarpatta Parambarai, Jai Bhim and Asuran are far more effective than any such OTT platform can ever be.
