Indonesia’s Oscar Entry Is Now Streaming and It’s a Must Watch!

Every year hundreds of films get submitted to the Academy under the Best International Feature Film category. India’s entry for the year 2023 is the Gujarati film ‘Chhello Show’. FFI’s decision to send a niche film and snub SS Rajamouli’s RRR has been heavily criticised considering the momentum it has built in the Western side of the world. Anyways today’s article is a recommendation of another country’s Oscar entry film, i.e Indonesia.

Indonesia’s 2023 Oscar entry film is ‘Missing Home’ released at the movies on June 2nd,2022 and is streaming on Netflix India now. Originally titled as Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap (in Indonesian), Missing Home is an Indonesian language comedy drama film written and directed by Bene Dion Rajagukguk. The film is set in the Batak Tribe of Indonesia. The narrative follows a married couple who stages their divorce in order to encourage their estranged adult children to return to their hometown. More of a sweet home-coming and an emotional reunion, Missing Home hits all the right chords of a family drama.

Besides being Indonesia’s official entry at the upcoming Oscars, Missing Home is actually a film that would resonate with Indian audiences too because of the cultural similarities we share with the people of Indonesia. The film’s Indonesian title resembles the book written by Bene Dion, but is not an adaptation of the literary work. The film stars Arswendy Beningswara Nasution, Tika Panggabean, Botis Bokir Manullang, Gita Bhebhita Butar-butar, Lolox and Indra Jegel in major roles. The film is a solid recommendation from our side. Stay tuned for more updates.
