Mollywood has had a good year so far – both in theatres as well as direct-to-OTT releases. A good reason for that is due to some brilliant acting by some young, talented Malayalam actors such as Fahadh Faasil, Prithviraj and Tovino Thomas. These aforementioned actors have also had a good year, which can be seen in some of their releases, such as ‘Malik’, ‘Kuruthi’ and ‘Kala’. Even Suraj Vanjaramoodu has had a brilliant year with ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ and ‘Kannekkaane’. However, there is one Malayalam actor who has been flying under the radar this year and that actor is Indrans.
This costume designer turned actor made history when his 340th film was released directly for streaming earlier this year – the film being ‘Malik‘. However, the Malayalam veteran actor has been a part of seven Malayalam films in this year alone – and the actor has led two of those films. While the first movie, ‘Velukkakka Oppu Ka‘, isn’t that well known, his second feature, ‘#Home‘, was released on Amazon Prime Video and it was a highly watched film at the time of its premiere. He plays the role of a father in both Malayalam movies (but they are both drastically different roles).
The actor has also played a couple of small, yet crucial characters in other 2021 released films. As mentioned earlier, Indran’s 340th film is ‘Malik’ and he plays the circle inspector of police, George Zachariah. The Malayalam artist also plays a couple of minor roles in ‘Vellam’, ‘Anugraheethan Antony’, ‘Innu Muthal’ and ‘Ellam Sheriyakum’. The actor has been a part of quite a few successful films this year and has gone under the radar for some time now. 2021 has reminded us of this underrated actor’s acting prowess and we have a feeling we will be seeing a lot more of him in the future.
