In a remarkable streaming feat, the TV series “Suits” has captured the attention of viewers worldwide, amassing an unthinkable 26.5 billion minutes of watch time across Netflix and Peacock in the last eight weeks. The week of August 7-13 marked its seventh consecutive week, crossing the 3 billion-minute mark, cementing its status as a streaming phenomenon. This achievement makes “Suits” the first title ever to maintain such a high viewership for an extended period.
The drama, which concluded in 2019, enjoyed a resurgence in popularity after it was added to Netflix earlier this summer. While it did dip slightly from 3.3 billion minutes to 3 billion minutes in the latest week, “Suits” remains the uncontested leader on Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings.
For context, even the second-place contender, “The Lincoln Lawyer,” garnered 1.4 billion minutes in its first full week of Season 2 Part 2 availability, less than half of “Suits” viewership. Although it’s expected that “Suits” may eventually fall below the 3 billion-minute threshold, its reign at the top of the charts continues to defy expectations.
While “Stranger Things” still holds the record for the highest viewing total in eight weeks, with 35.5 billion minutes in 2022, “Suits” has certainly made history by maintaining its dominance in the streaming landscape.
This is a slap to Netflix and the whole TV industry. Firstly, we don’t get series like Suits anymore. Either the series lacks anything new or they are just ordinary to grab the attention of the audience.
The views are coming on Netflix and the platform is in no mood to pay the artists any remuneration following the unthinkable success of the series. Even when actors/writers are constantly urging companies for their share, they don’t seem to care at all.
