This year’s summer box office has been mediocre at best. The arrival of Bad Boys 4 not only brings some freshness to the numbers, but it also carries good news. Inside Out 2 just received its early reviews, and they are fairly positive.
We covered this in a previous article: the film’s audience left the theater with a smile. Though the ratings are yet to be published, the reviews suggest that the film will start strong.
Now, moving from one aspect of success to another, how will the box office perform for the film?
Being a PG film and a sequel to an iconic franchise, it is definitely a golden goose. The film is targeting a massive $85M in the domestic market, which will be the biggest domestic box office opening of the year, dethroning Dune 2 after several months.
In terms of the international market, it might reach the $50M mark, taking the total to $135M in overall gross for the weekend.
Talking about the global opening, while it is far from touching the record set by Godzilla X Kong ($194M on the global stage), Inside Out 2 is still opening strong.
Additionally, it is not just the kids who are excited for the film. Parents who watched Inside Out in 2015 will likely take their kids, boosting the box office further. Some are even tagging it as the “Pixar Comeback Film,” which will help the film grow even stronger.
