Everyone knows that Shahid Kapoor’s Farzi was an enormous blockbuster. In fact, it is one of the biggest hits in Indian OTT history. But little did we know that it could inspire real life crime as well.
In a striking case of life imitating art, Shakur Mohammed, a 25-year-old struggling artist, found inspiration in “Farzi,” starring Shahid Kapoor. Kapoor’s character, an artist with financial woes, resonated with Shakur, leading him down an unexpected and illegal path.
Frustrated by his own financial struggles despite his artistic talent, Shakur hatched an audacious plan to get rich quickly. He enlisted the help of five friends and set up a counterfeiting operation in Ajmer, Rajasthan. Taking a cue from the world of fiction, Shakur and a friend skilled in inks and chemicals prepared the solution needed to print fake Indian currency notes (FICN).
But life is not an OTT show.
Their criminal enterprise, however, did not go unnoticed. Delhi Police’s Crime Branch caught wind of the counterfeit currency infiltrating the market and sprang into action. They conducted a raid that led to the seizure of counterfeit currency notes totalling Rs 19.84 lakh, primarily counterfeit Rs 500 notes.
This true story is a stark reminder of how fiction can influence real-life decisions, blurring the line between imagination and reality. Follow us for more interesting news from the OTT industry.
