In the 50th International Emmy Awards, India showcased its talent on the global stage, earning three well-deserved nominations. The proud moment came when Vir Das emerged victorious in the International Emmy for Comedy category for his super funny performance in Netflix India’s “Landing.” His win is a testament to the growing influence of Indian talent in the international entertainment arena, and it undoubtedly calls for celebration.
However, the bittersweet reality of awards ceremonies means that not everyone can take home the coveted trophy. Shefali Shah, nominated for Best Performance by an Actress for her role in Netflix India’s “Delhi Crime Season 2,” and Jim Sarbh, nominated for Best Performance by an Actor for SonyLIV’s “Rocket Boys Season 2,” faced disappointment as they lost out in their respective categories.
Jim Sarbh’s stellar performance was pitted against Martin Freeman in “The Responder,” and Shefali Shah competed with the talented Karla Souza for “La Caída.” Despite the setbacks, it’s essential to recognize and applaud their remarkable contributions to the Indian OTT industry and their commendable efforts in portraying complex characters.
But, let’s acknowledge the simple fact that an Emmy does not guarantee or approve of the greatness of any performance. Last year, team Binged highly appreciated the performance of Shefali Shah and Jim Sarbh this year. They were absolutely stunning and we must appreciate them with all our might.
Last but not least, congratulations to Vir Das.
However, we have another great news.
Ekta Kapoor recently received the International Directorate Award at the 51st International Emmy Awards in New York. Deepak Chopra, a well-known author and leader, presented her with the honor, making her the first Indian woman to achieve this recognition. It was not a nomination in any particular category but rather a sort of honour. But it is also nice.
Last but not least, congratulations to Vir Das and Ekta Kapoor.
