After coming home empty handed at the 2019 International Emmys, Indians have a good chance this year with nominations in three different categories, including the best drama series, best comedy and best performance by an actor.
In the best drama category, the Indian nomination is Netflix’s “Delhi Crime” based on the infamous Delhi gang rape in 2012 and the follow up investigation. The 7 episode series directed by Richie Mehta made its premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival from where it was picked by Netflix. Delhi Crime has been produced by Ivanhoe Pictures, Golden Karavan and Poor Man’s Productions.
Amazon Prime Video’s “Four More Shots Please!” is the one to get nominated in the Best Comedy category from India at the 2020 International Emmys. Directed by Anu Menon and Nupur Asthana, this two season series is about four unapologetic young women who live, love, make mistakes and stick together. The show has been produced by Pritish Nandy Communications Ltd.
Coming to the third, we have Arjun Mathur nominated in the Best Performance by an Actor category. The actor has the opportunity to bring the Emmy honor home for his role as Karan Mehra in Amazon Prime Video’s show “Made In Heaven“. Mathur essays the role of a gay man who was living in the times when homosexuality was a crime in the country.
While all the three Indian nominations in the International Emmys 2020 have received great reviews here in India, it will be nothing less than a joyous occasion if they bring the prestigious trophy home. This would not only put Indian web shows on the world map, but will also bring a sense of achievement and pride. The event will be held in New York City on 23rd November, 2020.
