Some time ago when Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’ was re-releasing in theatres and IMAX’s around the world, it did not manage to get the screens in India due to the then release of the now mega blockbuster ‘Pushpa 2’.
This had sparked a massive online debate with many commenting that “India doesn’t deserve cinema” which was followed by others coming to the rescue of the vibrant, rooted, loud and unapologetically dramatic Indian cinema including celebrities like Janhavi Kapoor.
Today Warner Brothers India announced that ‘Interstellar’ is all set to return to cinemas in India and also in IMAX on February 7, 2025, which is two months post it re-released overseas.
With the re-release ‘Interstellar’ not only crossed the $200 million mark in the US but also became the highest grossing IMAX re-release of all time.
With such commendable results the producers and distributors could have stopped but almost anyone is smart enough to know what massive potential Indian market holds. That’s why, even after a gap of two months, ‘Interstellar’ is set to make its way to Indian theatres.
So those who were worried about Indians “missing out” on the opportunity should now know better that Indian consumer market is itself the biggest opportunity and it would almost always be the other way around when it comes to “missing out” on something like this.
