‘Introducing Skater Girl’ Featurette: Netflix’s Tribute To Womanhood

Since Netflix has dropped the trailer of Indian-American sports drama Skater Girl a few weeks back, it’s begun to make us fall in love with its concept. By now we know that the story of Skater Girl centers on Prerna, a teenage tribal girl in Rajasthan who discovers skateboarding after a British-Indian woman, Jessica coincidentally visits her village and introduces skateboarding to other children of the village. Prerna and Jessica face the backlash of the villagers along the way who do not support the girls playing with skateboards, leaving everything else behind.

Now, just an hour ago on the eve of the release of this unconventional film with a fresh perspective and a feel-good factor, Netflix just released a featurette clip titled “Introducing Skater Girl”. This short 56-seconds clip is about the women finding freedom in the country and in this movie. Narrated by director Manjari Makijany, the daughter of Mac Mohan, the clip tells us that this is not only based on Prerna, the eponymous Skater Girl but also revolves around the life and struggle of Jessica who comes back to find her Indian roots, the British-Indian woman and the lavish, glorious yet dignified life of Maharani aka Waheeda Rehman and on how they cope up with every day challenges as a woman. This complete film is about women empowerment across generations, the freedom of women and the way women are seen in the society.

As mentioned earlier apart from Rehman, Skater Girl will feature Rachel Sanchita Gupta as Prerna and British actress Amrit Maghera as Jessica along with Shafin Patel as Ankush. The story is co-written by Manjari and Vinati Makijany, who also co-produced the film through their Indian production company Mac Productions.

This film is going live on Netflix today and can assure you that this newest take of womanhood will surely be worthwhile.
