Fans are definitely hyped up after witnessing the latest Invincible Season 2 trailer, which is packed with tons of action, blood, and drama. Based on Robert Kirkman’s comic book series, Season 1 culminated with a bang. Its final moments showed Mark and his father, Nolan Grayson (aka Omni-Man), going one-on-one with each other. Mark never had a chance to win against the powerful and ruthless Omni-Man. But we also witnessed that the latter was not that ruthless, as he still has some feelings for his son. What does this mean? Does he really love Mark? Or is he still loyal to Viltrumites and their ways of handling business?
Fans watched Omni-Man disappearing into space at the end of the first season. And Kirkman has confirmed that his absence would be felt in the initial episodes of Season 2. He spoke to Entertainment Weekly some time ago about Omni-Man’s absence in the sophomore entry. This is what he said:
“Omni-Man is gone, and he could not be more essential to the survival of Earth. I think that, if anything, people should be aware of the fact that not only did Omni-Man become a threat at the end of the first season, but he also revealed a larger threat in the Viltrumites themselves. That threat is going to come into play in Season 2, and Omni-Man is not there to defend the Earth, especially from his own people. That ends up being a terrifying prospect that hangs over the series for a good long time,” he said.
It seems like the Viltrumites are the real threat in Invincible Season 2. But the main question is this: Will Omni-Man join other Viltrumites in their efforts to destroy Earth? Or will we see him protecting the planet with Mark? After taking into account all the plot twists we have witnessed in the first season, we should consider every possibility in this scenario.
Another important thing which has to be considered here is that Prime Video made some significant changes to the source material while working on Season 1. So, it is possible that the upcoming season may deviate from Kirkman’s comic book events. But one thing is for sure: Omni-Man will return in Season 2!
Apart from Omni-Man and the Viltrumites, Invincible Season 2 will have another bad guy in the form of Angstrom Levy, who hates Mark as he believes that Mark is responsible for his disfiguration. Levy will be seen utilising various powers like enhanced durability and strength, teleportation, and genius-level intellect, establishing him as a worthy foe for Mark. But he is not as ruthless as Omni-Man. Stay tuned for more updates.
