Enough has been observed and alleged against the wokeness of the Hindi film industry. They try to be something that they are not and it is essentially the reason the industry has loosened its grip on the audience.
So what are Indians gonna sell to the rest of the world as their cinematic brainchild? Well, they can try to sell anything but they would buy only those things that are quintessentially Indian. Just imagine, why would the rest of the world be interested in a film like Gehraiyaan, even though it is good? The film lacks the Desi flavour as it talks about the global cosmopolitan where people in metros are living the same packed life everywhere in the world.
However, films like RRR, Gangubai Kathiyawadi or even series like Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar are quintessentially Indian.
They have everything that the rest of the world knows very little about. And the grandeur is fascinating by every means.
So, Bhansali has begun the international promotion of Heeramandi even before the release. In Los Angeles, the man was present in the screening of Gangubai Kathiyawadi and Heeramandi. The essence of the whole event was “We worship Goddesses”. Again, something Indians can relate to, the most.
Gangubai Kathiyawadi is done and dusted. But, Heeramandi has a lot of potential. RRR brought home an Oscar, let’s hope that Heeramandi gets us an Emmy. Because these things certainly look like a campaign for an Emmy.
