Is ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ Better Than Knives Out 1?

Is ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ Better Than Knives Out 1?

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’, the sequel to Rian Johnson’s widely admired 2019 multi-starrer whodunnit ‘Knives Out’, is one of the most eagerly anticipated movies of 2022. Following its world premiere at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival a few days back, several reviews from critics have already started pouring in.

So, as per the early reviews for ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’, you might be interested in knowing whether the sequel has managed to outdo and is better than the parent ‘Knives Out’ movie or not. Let’s find out.

The first ‘Knives Out’ movie is ‘Certified Fresh’ with a highly impressive 97% critics’ score on reviews aggregation portal Rotten Tomatoes, based on 475 reviews. The audience score is marginally lower at 92% on the website. On the other hand, ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ has so far secured a still impressive, albeit a lower critics’ score of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 43 reviews. However, the score might increase or decrease as more reviews for the film are out in the future.

On another reputed reviews aggregation website Metacritic, the 2019 ‘Knives Out’ film has secured a ‘Must-See’ status with a meta-score of 82, based on 52 critic reviews. While ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ is also tagged as ‘Must-See’ on Metacritic and is just one point below with a meta-score of 81, based on 20 critic reviews so far. But again, the score might increase or decrease whenever more reviews start coming out after the film’s more widespread release.

So, as per the aforementioned critics’ scores on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic, the parent ‘Knives Out’ movie is clearly ahead of its sequel ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’. ‘Knives Out 2’ is slated to release in select theatres in November. Later, it will start streaming on the Netflix OTT platform from 23rd December onwards including Netflix India of course.

And in case you are wondering whether ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ aka ‘Knives Out 2’ will be released in Indian theatres, presently there is no news about the film’s theatrical release in India. After its TIFF premiere, the sequel will be showcased at the BFI London Film Festival on 16th October following which it will be released in some theatres in the US but not in India.

In ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’, ex-James Bond actor Daniel Craig reprises his role as the astute Detective Benoit Blanc. The story follows a tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton), who invites his friends to his private Greek island. But the goings-on take a drastic turn when someone is killed, and Benoit Blanc is tasked to investigate the mysterious case. The film also features Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, Jessica Henwick, Ethan Hawke, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, amongst others.
