The production of HBO’s House of the Dragon Season 2 is well underway amidst the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. One of the showrunners, George R. R. Martin (who also authored ‘Fire & Blood’ novel), has revealed that Season 2’s filming is seamlessly progressing as the show’s actors are not SAG-AFTRA members. Instead, they represent the UK-based actors’ union, Equity. It means fans will get the second season soon. However, they are concerned about its eight-episode run.
The first season offered a total of 10 sensational episodes to the fans. However, the upcoming season will have only eight episodes. This scenario has raised concerns among fans who fear that HOTD Season 2 may end up following the path of GOT Season 8.
HBO’s Game of Thrones is one of the most beloved tv series of all time. But its final season received tons of hate from the show’s diehard fans. One of the major reasons behind Season 8’s failure was its short episode count. David Benioff and D. B. Weiss took a slow-building approach in the first six seasons, allowing the duo to focus properly on the show’s characters and storylines. This approach turned out effective, enabling the characters and narratives to grow organically.
However, Season 8 was a mad rush to the show’s overall conclusion. Its breakneck pacing stole all the depth and seriousness that aided GOT in becoming a massive critical and financial success. Fans think that a similar scenario could take place in HOTD Season 2.
One of the directors from ‘House of the Dragon’, Clare Kilner, addressed fans’ concerns over Season 2’s limited episode count in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, “There are eight wonderful episodes with so much happening in every episode,” she said. “And we have trouble, at times, bringing them down to one hour. [Showrunner] Ryan [Condal’s] decision was to give it a good opening and a good ending, and they’re jam-packed with emotional and visually exciting events.”
Let’s see how ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 turns out. You can watch the show’s first season on Jio Cinema. Stay tuned for more updates.
