House of the Dragon Season 2 is causing some controversy in India, as the episodes on JioCinema are comparatively shorter than those on HBO. From the beginning, fans have accused JioCinema of censoring several scenes.
However, JioCinema claimed that this discrepancy is due to the difference in FPS of the uploaded content. Max calculated the length of the show using a lower frame rate of 23.98 FPS, whereas JioCinema used a standard frame rate of 25 FPS, resulting in shorter episode lengths.
Is JioCinema bluffing?
Technically, no. Some fans who have watched both HBO’s and JioCinema’s versions of the show claim that there are no cuts at all. The episode lengths are shorter, but JioCinema didn’t make any changes to what they received from HBO.
Is this the first time JioCinema has done this?
Not at all. In earlier instances, JioCinema also uploaded HBO shows with different FPS. The reason the shorter episode length of House of the Dragon is causing major controversy is that India has one of the biggest viewer bases for any Game of Thrones show.
But the shorter episode length isn’t limited to House of the Dragon. Let’s compare some other shows on JioCinema.
Remember The Last of Us featuring Pedro Pascal? Here is a comparison between the episode lengths on JioCinema and HBO..

This difference isn’t limited to some selective shows but is a constant issue regarding episode length. If you look at episodes of the recent HBO show *The Regime*, you will notice similar differences.
Although fans were initially unhappy with JioCinema’s lack of clarity about the cause of shorter episodes, the platform did eventually come clean. While JioCinema may cause issues in several other aspects of streaming, censorship is not something they are currently imposing.
