Talking about recent Netflix India ventures, the last two movies fell flat. Despite all the hype surrounding Maharaj due to legal troubles, Wild Wild Punjab saw a different kind of failure. Netflix announced it in an underwhelming way and then followed up with equally underwhelming marketing strategies.
Netflix and T-Series gave Wild Wild Punjab a low blow with a lack of advertisements.
The target audience for the film is youth, so Netflix and T-Series needed to think accordingly. What attracts youth is a good old roast on stage, and they are doing it.
But when?
Ironically, the makers are organizing a roast and releasing it on Netflix today, one day after the film’s release, which is definitely a miscalculated step. Most of the time, this strategy works, but with a film like Wild Wild Punjab, which has had very little investment in marketing, an early release of this roast could have sparked conversations on social media.

Regarding the quality of the film, it is a hit or miss (more of a miss, probably). While the road trip comedy has its fair share of fun parts, the audience isn’t connecting much with the level of comedy. Comedy is subjective, and you can’t make everyone laugh, but this film missed the mark entirely.
The marketing efforts suggest that neither the makers nor the OTT platform is betting big on Wild Wild Punjab. Netflix missed the point with this film. Despite a cast featuring Varun Sharma, Rajesh Sharma, and Manjot Singh, who have the spark on screen, the sloppy script and even sloppier execution make the attempt fail drastically.
As of now, the show has a 5.6 rating on IMDb, clearly showing how weak the show really is. If Netflix had taken the advertising job seriously, they could have at least redeemed the film a bit.
