A new installment of Dumb and Dumber, Netflix, and Cavill not only harms the run of one of the best series in their lifetime, it also impacted the fans massively as “The Witcher” was announced to bid goodbye after the fifth season.
Now, last night it was confirmed that “The Witcher” will be putting his sword down after season 5. But there lies the question, how wise is the decision?
Talking about the heart and soul of the show, when Henry Cavill left the show, a big chunk of the audience lost hope. The online space was flooded with disappointment, and most of them were determined not to follow up if Cavill left. Now, karma bit Cavill too as he decided to leave it for DC, and DC slapped him with firing after their confirmation of him continuing the role of Superman.
Netflix also fixed their advertisement game for the third season of the show, flooding some major landmarks with projections of “Yes, he’s still Geralt.” But this was the point fans started to turn their heads, and the show saw dips in the ratings.
Just to paint a picture of the dip in views, “The Witcher” Season 2 debuted with a viewership of 142M watch hours and followed it up with 168M and 94M watch hours, which is definitely commendable. But let’s come back to the third season.
The third season of “The Witcher” debuted with 111M watch hours (by converting the views), and then in later weeks, it has watch hours of 101M and 49M, which is far less than expected. Despite it being previously announced that it was Cavill’s last run and Liam Hemsworth will later replace him, the fans felt tasteless and didn’t follow up. Even Netflix’s big-scale advertisement didn’t work.
So yes, one of Netflix’s most valuable possessions is losing its charm, and that too from long ago. Liam will definitely play a respectable Geralt, but Cavill was always the fans’ Geralt. And right now, keeping everything in mind, not stretching it longer than eternity, Netflix is definitely showing maturity with the decision to give some room to the makers and letting them finish the show. Geralt of Rivia will be missed.

The witcher book series has such a rich and amazing story that you guys could tell, you've already skipped important key parts in the past few seasons, but only 5 seasons? i don't know how you'll give this a proper ending in so little seasons.
