King’s gift to his ‘subjects’ is indeed special, and with a very creative trailer, SRK lets us know that “Jawan” is streaming on Netflix. If you are a hardcore film fan, you already know how special an extended cut or a director’s cut can be.
Practically, the “Jawan” fever took over the internet, but there is something that is leaving a bad taste. The internet says that the ‘theatrical edition’ of the film is 169 minutes long. If you expected that the Netflix version would be somewhat longer, then you couldn’t be more wrong. If your expectations were for a film with at least five more minutes, Netflix will offer you a few more seconds, a true gimmick indeed.
Now, “Jawan’s” extended cut marks the recent popularity of extended cuts, and most films also take it as a chance to gift their fans something more; they try to pack it with some unseen scenes and moments.
The director’s cut will now be a new addition to the gauntlets of Indian directors as the popularity of OTT platforms will make it an asset. But certain ‘gimmicks’ like this will bring the credibility down. Still, fans are just too overwhelmed regarding the ‘surprise’ release. Though Netflix’s journey of disappointment goes on, the moment is too joyous to leave such a taste.
