Web series and web original movies swept away majority of the entertainment quota in 2020, keeping everyone enjoyed during the tough times. And without any doubt, the streaming market produced and gave limelight to several of the actors whether established or fresher in equal amounts. This sudden popularity of OTT has made even A-list actors alter their future projects and make space for an OTT content in their pipeline.
Now imagine if this is the situation of the established stars and artists, television actors who generally have a hectic schedule would certainly be looking upto OTT and the exposure it provides to all the members associated with a particular content. Earlier, if a television actor wanted to make it big, his/her only option used be trying in Bollywood movies/films etc. But now with the arrival of OTT, television actors have gotten another platform to showcase their talent without any pressure of big release and box office which is generally the case in theatrical movies.
OTT platforms are producing intriguing and rich content at a higher frequency which has given a lot of actors, directors and writers a chance to showcase their talents. This has also resulted in several of the television actors to get into the web market. The recent examples of this can be Barun Sobti, Ridhi Dogra, Jennifer Winget, Divyanka Tripathi, Karan Singh Grover etc. All of these actors who started off from television have achieved tremendous praise and success for their work in the digital space.
Seeing the success of their contemporaries, many budding television actors have also expressed their desires on working in the OTT space in the future. They’ve stated that it is a platform which provides a great experience to the actor and also the style of work is different from that of Television serials. OTT challenges the actor to venture into something new and brings out the best in them. Also the fact that, OTTs have a significant amount of creative liberty which helps the actor to broaden his/her horizons.
Hence, it seems like as OTT has become the need of the hour, artists are not shying away from the fact that working on this space is the best possible thing as of now. And we’ll surely be seeing plenty of small screen actors making it big in the OTT space.
