Seems like it’s a really good time to be a Sivakarthikeyan fan. He is cracking box-office jackpot continuously in a row. He struck gold with Nelson directorial ‘Doctor’ which released last year. And now with Cibil Chakravarthi’s directorial debut ‘Don‘ that released in the month of May. Both the films grossed over hundred crores at the box-office.
‘Doctor’ was also a huge hit on Netflix India after it’s streaming release back in the day and cracked top #1 position in no time and trended on Top 10 for weeks. And Now with ‘Don’, Sivakarthikeyan seems to have cracked a code to gather streaming audience acceptance too. In hardly two days, the movie dethroned ‘Stranger Things‘ from #1 position and now comfortably sits on #3 a week later. If trends are to go by, the film will stay on Top 10 Netflix India for a few more weeks.
This is quite a huge feat for the actor to have back to back box office and streaming hits considering the fact that many theatricals aren’t really doing that well on streaming platforms unless they have already pre-built hype. This could also indirectly help upcoming films of the star in closing their digital streaming deals.
Don’s plot revolves around a reluctant engineering student (Sivakarthikeyan) and his repeated clashes with his college’s discipline mentor (SJ Suryah). The film was not only commercially successful, but also critically appreciated especially for Sivakarthikeyan and SJ Suryah’s performances. Don features SJ Suryah, Priyanka Arul Mohan, Samuthirakani and Soori in pivotal roles.
