Taron Egerton has recently revealed that he has been in talks with Marvel executives and MCU’s godfather, Kevin Feige, about taking the mantle of Wolverine. Hugh Jackman played this iconic superhero character for Fox Studios for nearly 20 years. It is unlikely that the Australian actor will return for another Wolverine or X-Men project. Is Egerton the best man for this job? Let’s find out!
Egerton said in an interview with The New York Times: “I don’t think it would be wrong to say that. I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it. But hopefully, if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot.”
The Welsh actor is globally prominent for his role as Gary “Eggsy” Unwin in Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman movie franchise. He also played Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards, a well-known English ski-jumper, in the 2015 biopic helmed by Dexter Fletcher. Hugh Jackman donned Bronson Peary’s character in that one. But Egerton gained worldwide fame with the help of Rocketman, the Elton John biopic.
We know that Taron Egerton cannot replace Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. The latter has carried the superhero character on his back for 20 years. His last outing as Wolverine, Logan, perfectly concluded his arc in Fox’s X-Men universe in addition to treasuring one of the best performances of his career. Plus, no other actor has portrayed “the superhero with adamantium claws” on the big screen other than Jackman.
That’s why it will be a monumental task for Egerton to fill Jackman’s shoes if he gets selected as Wolverine in the MCU. Fans may get the official announcement about this scenario at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con, scheduled to commence on July 21.
Egerton is an underrated performer. He may exceed our expectations as Wolverine. Additionally, he seems like the perfect choice if Feige and his team decide to follow the superhero’s comic version. James Howlett aka Logan is short in height and possesses a bulky figure in the comics. The Welsh performer may pull this thing off if he gets the comic-book accurate version of Wolverine in his hands.
Another thing that works in Egerton’s favour is his young age. He can play Wolverine for at least 10 years and may even appear in numerous X-Men projects in future.
Marvel Studios is yet to confirm Taron Egerton’s addition to the MCU. We will inform you as soon as we get any information about this case. Stay tuned for more updates.
