Few months back there was news that stated a deal being signed by two of the biggest production houses in the Indian film scene. Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Tamil powerhouse Lyca Productions signed deals for collaborations. Lyca Productions which is a big name down south and has produced several big hits was planning for entering the Bollywood game and collaborating with Dharma Productions would definitely give a boost to both of them.
Now, the buzz is around that apparently the deal between both the production houses has been called off. No one knows as to what might have been the situation or the reason that might have led to this. As for the meeting that was discussing the matter, some of the biggest Bollywood insiders were present to discuss the deal. No further details have been brought forward.
Also, this needs to be kept in mind that there also have been no official notices or announcements have been released by either of the production houses. So at the moment everything is up for speculation. Dharma Production earlier mainly collaborated with Fox Star Studios for the release of their projects. But later, the company was brought over by Walt Disney which declared that they won’t be working on Bollywood projects.
It was reported back in December that Lyca Productions have signed a 5 film deal with Dharma Productions in Bollywood. Meaning 5 Dharma projects would have been released in association with Lyca Productions. Earlier, both the production houses collaborated during the release of the megahit “2.0”. As Lyca Productions released the sci-fi hit in the market, Dharma presented the movie in the Hindi market.
If Lyca has pulled out of the deal as of now, this means that Dharma Productions will be looking for partners for its upcoming releases like Shershaah, Dostana 2, Jug Jug Jeeyo, Liger and few others.
