We are less than a couple of weeks away from getting ‘The Nun 2’, a sequel to The Nun (2018), in theatres globally. Warner Bros will surely benefit from the film’s box office collections, thanks to ‘The Conjuring’ franchise’s global prominence. It seems like the upcoming Nun installment will be nothing more than a cash-grabbing tool for WB.
The Conjuring Universe is one of the most profitable film franchises for Warner Bros. However, its journey has been nothing short of a roller coaster ride in terms of critical reception since 2013. The popular horror film series treasures some enjoyable and terrifying entries, such as all main Conjuring flicks and Annabelle: Creation (2017). However, we can’t say the same about the rest of the entries in the franchise. The original Nun film was a disappointment as well. It suffered from a lack of a compelling storyline and suspenseful moments and relied too heavily on jump scares. All these scenarios can pop up in The Nun 2 as well.
Another thing that may make the forthcoming Nun sequel a disappointment is its antagonist, Valak, a demon from the goetic grimoires. Fans have already watched Valak in The Conjuring 2, Annabelle: Creation, and The Nun. Seeing Valak for the fourth time may result in the audience losing interest in the film.
In addition, the sequel’s premise does not look intriguing at all. The second installment will take place four years after the events of the first Nun entry. It will revolve around Sister Irene as she once again goes face-to-face with Valak/The Nun. This time, she will face the demon inside a French boarding school.
The 2018 entry collected over $365 million globally against a small budget of $22 million. It means that The Nun 2 is a sure hit even if critics butcher it. The sequel stars Taissa Farmiga, Demian Bichir, Jonas Bloquet, and more. Stay tuned for more updates.
