Prabhas’ much anticipated romance drama, Radhe Shyam dropped a teaser on Valentine’s Day and also gave us the expected release date of the film (which will be towards the end of June). But in the trailer, Prabhas’ says something to the leading lady, Pooja Hegde, which at first glance sounds bold and romantic, but on a second view, sounded ominous. Did the teaser trailer just foreshadow a tragic love story?
Towards the end of the trailer, Pooja askes Prabhas, “Are you trying to be Romeo?” to which he replies, “No. He died for love. I am not that type”. This could very well be the character’s attempt at being “macho”, but we think this scene could be foreshadowing a major character death down the line (likely one of the main two). Many movies have foreshadowed deaths early on in a movie with audiences being none-the-wiser and many of these deaths have made many other tragic love stories great, like Kal Ho Naa Ho.
With a budget of nearly Rupees 350 crores, which eclipses the budgets of both Bahubali: The Beginning and Bahubali 2: The Conclusion individually, we expect that this highly awaited romance movie to have an epic storyline with a twinge of wanderlust (the movie was shot in Italy and Georgia). The size of the budget makes us doubt the death of either of the two leading characters though, at least permanently.
Another possible theory is that it could be a reincarnation story, just like Om Shanti Om. With one of the biggest budgets ever seen in Indian cinema, it doesn’t exactly make sense to kill off one of the lovers or both (unless the story really calls for it). Instead, we could be shown one tragic death on screen, and the love story would continue on, in the future. This actually makes sense in a way because the teaser trailer for the movie is set in the 1970s. Now, the whole story could probably happen in 1970s Europe, or we might get an initial tragic death, most likely Prabhas, dying for his lady love and then see him reincarnated in the future, in current time.
As for now, we will have to wait for the answers for all our speculations till Radhe Shyam drops in theaters on July 30th 2021.
