Bollywood is right now relying over nostalgia, with all the recent re-release fans are fascinated to see how the old gems are overtaking the box office.
The primary example being “Tumbbad”, which was initially released in 2018 but didn’t get the appreciation it deserved, but as the audience are now drawn towards folklore related movies, “Tumbbad” became a visual treat and a tale of folklore to the audience.
Girish Johar, producer and film business expert, stated that the massive advanced booking of the re release already gained the movie’s life time achievement.
when it was initially released the budget was 15cr and it didn’t met half of its price but after the re release “Tumbbad” became a phenomenon, a cult classic which now has a separate fanbase.
Upon watching it the second time people understood that the tale is not only about the folklore but also about Lust and Greed, which shook the audience’s mind.
With great visual representation and storytelling “Tumbbad” is now one of the best movies created in Bollywood .
“Laila Majnu” who allegedly paved the path for this gem’s re-release , can be over taken easily as now fans are carzy about “Tumbbad”.
“Tumbbad” triples the opening day of its original run, collecting Rs 1.50 crore, and we have to keep that in mind that the show got few theaters to release it on.
Where on the other hand Kareena Kapoor Khan’s , “The Buckingham Murders” which
was released yesterday 13th September 2924, a crime thriller garnered 10-1.30 crores.
Keeping that in mind “Tumbbad” catered more as a re-release than “The Buckingham Murders”. But we have to keep that in mind as well, that audience’s mood can change any moment, keeping in mind that the tickets are very low in price and it got shows all over India, but still behind “Tumbbad’s” success.
So it is fair to say that “Tumbbad” not only tickled the nostalgia but also became a box office hit, and with the announcement of part 2 fans are crazy about “Tumbaad”.
But now it’s a matter of time to see if the table turns or not.
