The makers of Ajith‘s most anticipated action thriller Valimai recently announced that the film will be hitting the silver screens across the globe on the 13th of January. The film is now gearing up for theatrical release this Pongal season. Incidentally, the government of Tamil Nadu has delivered a rude shock to the makers of Valimai by announcing that the state will observe a complete lockdown every Sunday till further notice. This move is to curb the spread of Covid in the state.
The newly imposed restriction raised doubts on Valimai‘s release. Sunday is a crucial day at the box office for any film as the family audience tend to step out to watch films in theatres on Sundays. With the Tamil Nadu government announcing complete lockdown on Sundays, it was rumored that the makers of Valimai might postpone the film’s release.
But sources close to Valimai unit have confirmed that the film will indeed be releasing in theatres on the 13th of January no matter what. The makers are daring to take on the Covid 3rd wave. “The makers are bogged down by the Sunday-lockdown announcement, but if the film misses Sankranthi release, the foreseeable future doesn’t look all that promising. So, the idea is to stick to the Pongal release slot no matter what,” a source close to Valimai said.
As things stand, Valimai is indeed releasing in theatres on the 13th of January. The 50% seating at cinema halls and Sunday-lockdown regulations might affect the film’s box office [erformance, but there is no going back now. Until and unless cinema halls are completely shut down, Valimai will be sticking to the release plan.
