OTT giant Disney+ Hotstar has just announced through a 30-second clip featuring Shefali Shah about the filming wrap for its much-anticipated web series titled ‘Human’ and that it’s coming soon on the streaming platform. Although no exact release date for the show has been revealed.
‘Human’, which was being touted as Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s dream project, would feature the talented filmmaker’s better half and acclaimed actress Shefali Shah (Delhi Crime, Monsoon Wedding, Satya, Dil Dhadakne Do, Ajeeb Daastaans).
‘Human’ is a web series that belongs to the medical thriller genre and is ostensibly based on the scarcely touched-upon subject of human drug trials. The show has been directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah alongside Mozez Singh. Besides Shefali Shah, the web series also features an ensemble cast that includes Kirti Kulhari, Ram Kapoor, Seem Biswas, Aditya Srivastava, and Mohan Agashe, amongst others.
The Indian small screen industry has previously produced some medical dramas such as ‘Sanjivani’, ‘Ayushman’, ‘Dill Mill Gaye’, ‘Kuch To Log Kahenge’ and the more recent web series ‘Laakhon Mein Ek S2’.
However, even in Hollywood, medical mainstream shows or films specifically based on the concept of human drug trials are a rare commodity. For instance, there was a film called ‘Extreme Measures’ starring Hugh Grant and Gene Hackman, which touched upon the issue of ethics of medical sacrifices. Moreover, an Indian movie titled ‘Umeed’ was made on the subject of clinical trials.
So, it would be quite interesting how ‘Human’ eventually turns out to be. But with Vipul Shah at the helm and Shefali Shah in the lead, our hopes are certainly high. Vipul Shah is a gifted filmmaker who made his feature film directorial debut with the deftly executed heist flick ‘Aankhen’ (starring Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, and Sushmita Sen). Subsequently, he went on to direct films such as ‘Waqt’, ‘Namastey London’, and ‘London Dreams’.
