The upcoming Warner Bros Discovery project, Welcome to Derry – a series serving as a prequel to the events of It, has begun filming. Director Andy Muschietti has shared the first look from the series on Instagram. The image he shared shows the name of the Derry police chief, Clint Bowers. This news has come weeks after Warner Bros Discovery greenlighted the project.

It seems like HBO is moving forward with the planned shows that have their scripts ready amidst the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike. Apart from Welcome to Derry, the network is also working on House of Dragon Season 2.
Muschietti helmed It (2017) and its sequel, It Chapter Two (2019), based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel. The book has also been adapted into a two-part 1990 miniseries by Tommy Lee Wallace. This project had Tim Curry as the evil and wisecracking clown, Pennywise. As for Muschietti’s adaptations, Bill Skarsgard played the terrifying character.
The It fans know about the Bowers surname. Two main characters carried this surname in the original story, Henry and his father, Butch. During his childhood, the former used to bully the protagonists, the Losers’ Club. On the other hand, Butch is a farmer in the novel but a police officer in Muschietti’s adaptations. One of their family members will oversee the Derry police department in the forthcoming It prequel series.
‘Welcome to Derry’ may focus on one of the earliest Pennywise attacks in the fictional town of Derry. There, a mysterious and evil force, It, resurfaces every 27 years to attack children and devour their fear. Warner Bros Discovery is yet to reveal the prequel series’ release window.
