It was Prabhas’ ‘Radhey Shyam’ vs Anupam Kher’s ‘The Kashmir Files’ this 11th March and the outcomes are the most unexpected ever. While the incredible word of mouth reviews of ‘The Kashmir Files’ is attracting more and more people to the theatres, ‘Radhe Shyam’ has had quite a dull response.
‘The Kashmir Files’ by National Award winning director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has gained huge momentum at the box office in last three days. The film collected a total of 31.6 cr worldwide with 4.25 cr on day 1, 10.10 cr on day 2 and 17.25 cr on day3.
With the kind of overwhelming response for ‘The Kashmir Files’, the film is expected to have larger audiences in the following days which is expected to strongly continue till the coming holiday weekend. Moreover, the film has been made tax free in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka and Haryana.
The support for ‘The Kashmir Files’ from the ruling party too has worked in the film’s favour. The team met PM Modi who made it more special for them with his words of appreciation. Union Cabinet Minister Smriti Irani also promoted the film on Twitter and asked people to watch it. BJP national spokesperson R P Singh took it one step ahead and offered to sponsor tickets for students.
I am offering free ticket to college students from RajinderNagar Constituency for #KashmirFiles at Nairana PVR. Let the new generation visit the history which scarred the soul of the nation. Corporate India too has taken a keen interest in ‘The Kashmir Files’ with one financial services firm R K Global not only calling out its employees across the nation to go watch the film but also sponsored their tickets. The director took note of this and appreciated the effort. Also, Dalmia Bharat group is doing something similar for its employees.
Corporate India coming forward to show #TheKashmirFiles is a positive sign of emergence of a united #NewIndia https://t.co/CdTdzdW6EL

On the other hand, although mass hero Prabhas has been able to attract the audience for his ‘Radhe Shyam’ and it is also doing amazing at the box office with a whooping 119 cr collection in just two days, the film has disappointed many. Given the scale and grandeur of ‘Radhe Shyam’, it hasn’t gone down well both among the critics and the public.
It’s a through and through victory for ‘The Kashmir Files’, a film with no A-list stars and still phenomenally winning hearts nationwide with its poignant, honest and brave narrative of the genocide and exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from their homeland 32 years ago.
