It’s Begun! First Movie Announced On Vikas Dubey’s Life And Death

In a recent interaction with a prominent media agency the makers of Manoj Bajpayee starrer ‘Bhonsle‘ confirmed that they are planning on making a film on the life of infamous gangster Vikas Dubey. The gangster who had been in news recently for killing 8 policeman during an attempted arrest was shot dead in an encounter after he allegedly tried to escape from police custody in Kanpur early on Friday morning.

The ‘Bhonsle’ producer Sandiip Kapur said, “We are in the planning phase right now. We are in talks with Manoj Bajpayee, but we haven’t signed papers. He has asked us to work on the film’s script. As you know, he only takes up a project if he is convinced with the script, the story and the character he has to portray. So once we have fixed everything, we will approach him and would want him to be a part of this film.”

Kapur added, “Even as producers, we want to bring out a good story, so we will not leave any stone unturned in the making of this film. Since the incident has happened only today, I am still looking for a writer and a director. Once we are sure of all this, we will formally announce this project.”

Vikas Dubey who belonged to Bikaru near Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh was a history-sheeter and a criminal claimed to have strong political links. The first criminal case against him was registered in the early 1990s, and by 2020 he had over 60 criminal cases against his name, including five cases of murder and eight cases of attempt to murder.

Vikas Dubey was arrested from Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Temple on July 9th after being on a run since July 3rd. His fellow gang members were also taken down or arrested during this time period. According to the police, while being transported from Ujjain to Kanpur on July 10th, one of the cars in the police convoy overturned and Dubey tried to take advantage of the situation. He allegedly snatched a weapon and tried to flee, following which the police had to shoot him down. Two policemen were also injured in the incident.

Crime thrillers have definitely been a hit in the Indian entertainment industry for quite a while now. Both fictional and real life inspired films and series have hit the screen from time to time. The real life criminal stories are something people are very curious about and this is where the filmmakers try to strike the iron while its still hot. We have earlier seen series like ‘Rangbaaz’ on Zee5 based on the true story of Shri Prakash Shukla who was a notorious gangster and the most wanted criminal of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. The series shows his journey from a DDU student to becoming the second most wanted criminal in India.

Whether more producers come forward for taking up a project so fresh and controversial is yet to be seen but there are high chances many will be interested. ‘Bhonsle’ producer has made his announcement and soon we can get to know more details as the script gets final. Whether Manoj Bajpayee will play the lead or not is still a question unanswered. Who do you think would fit the role of Vikas Dubey?
