Nielsen’s latest overall top ten regular streaming titles list (for the week of 12th to 18th June 2023) is out now. The Netflix sci-fi anthology series has made an impressive debut this week, but has it outranked last week’s No.1 title – James Cameron’s massively mounted blockbuster ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’? Let’s find out.
The topmost title on the Nielsen top ten streaming list has been secured by ‘Black Mirror’, whose sixth season recently started streaming on the Netflix OTT platform. It has got more than a whopping 1.35 billion minutes of viewing under its belt. So, yes, it has beaten ‘Avatar 2’, which has bagged the third spot on the latest Nielsen top ten list with a still impressive 1.05 billion minutes of viewing.
‘Black Mirror’ is a science fiction anthology series where every episode is presented as a standalone story that is mostly set in the near future or an alternative reality. Each episode focuses on the various technologies we casually use today for the sake of convenience/entertainment etc. The show has a loyal fan base although the sixth season’s theme / execution rather deviated from its earlier seasons.
Some other popular titles on the Nielsen top ten list are Chris Hemsworth’s explosive actioner ‘Extraction 2’ (1.02 billion minutes), and the Netflix sci-fi series ‘Manifest’ (969 million minutes), amongst others.
It is interesting to note that on the latest Nielsen top ten streaming list, a whopping number of eight out of ten titles are streaming on the Netflix OTT platform. While the other titles are streaming on the Paramount+, Hulu, Max, Peacock, and Disney+ streaming services.
