Ever since ‘No Time to Die’, the 25th film of the James Bond film franchise and Daniel Craig’s fifth and last venture as 007, came out a couple of months back, speculations are rife about which actor would play the coveted part of the legendary MI6 agent. The actors’ names which cropped up as probable contenders as the next James Bond were Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, Richard Madden, Tom Hiddleston, and Idris Alba, to name a few.
Amidst the rampant rumor mills, producer Barbara Broccoli, who controls the James Bond film series alongside her half-brother, Michael G. Wilson, through Eon Productions, had revealed some details in a recent interview (via THR) about the next James Bond film after ‘No Time to Die’. It wasn’t about who might play the new Bond, but it was, in fact, about who might not play the new Bond.
Here’s what Broccoli had remarked about the next James Bond: “I think it will be a man because I don’t think a woman should play James Bond. I believe in making characters for women and not just having women play men’s roles. I don’t think there are enough great roles for women, and it’s very important to me that we make movies for women about women. He should be British, so British can be any [ethnicity or race].”
So, two things seem to be clear as per Broccoli’s statement. Firstly, the next James Bond will most likely be played by a male actor. And secondly, the male actor won’t necessarily be white. He just has to be British.
Broccoli had also alluded to the possibility, rather willingness, of ‘No Time to Die’ director Cary Joji Fukunaga of being a part of the next James Bond movie. However, nothing yet is confirmed in this regard.
After their blockbuster James Bond film ‘No Time to Die’, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig have teamed up again for William Shakespeare’s Macbeth adaptation for Broadway. While Daniel Craig will next be seen in the highly anticipated ‘Knives Out’ sequel.
