After directing two widely acclaimed DC projects – the 2021 superhero movie ‘The Suicide Squad’ and more recently its equally admired spin-off show ‘Peacemaker’, James Gunn has two highly anticipated Marvel projects in his directorial line-up. They are, of course, the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ (GOTG-3) movie and the television special ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’.
While the latter is slated to start streaming on the Disney+ OTT platform from December 2022, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ is currently scheduled for a theatrical release in May 2023.
And in a big update for GOTG-3 just a few hours back, James Gunn has announced an official filming wrap on the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ trilogy with a picture of himself with some of the film’s lead cast members. Filming for GOTG-3 commenced in November last year in Georgia. And now the film is on to its post-production stage.

But fans of the Guardians franchise and the titular superhero team led by Christ Pratt will not have to wait to see them until the release of these two movies. Because, before that, the Guardians team will be seen sharing screen space with Thor actor Chris Hemsworth in ‘Thor: Love ad Thunder’, which is all set to release in theatres in July this year.
James Gunn had earlier revealed that ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ is going to be the last time when audiences will see the original Guardians team together. This means that will be the last outing for star-lord Peter Quill (played by Chris Pratt) and ostensibly for his team members including Thanos’ adopted daughter Gamora, skilled warrior Drax, tree-like humanoid Groot, raccoon bounty hunter Rocket, Thanos’ assassin Nebula, and Mantis. Having said that, there might be another Guardians film in the future, albeit with a different group of superheroes and a fresh story.
