There is an exciting piece of update for diehard fans of the man of steel – Superman. DC studios co-head and maverick filmmaker James Gunn has just revealed that as part of the upcoming DC slate, a new ‘Superman’ film is also in the works that is already being written by him. He further stated that the film’s story will revolve around an earlier part of Superman’s life, and it won’t be an origin film. The new movie would ostensibly feature Superman as a reporter (Clark Kent) in the fictional Metropolis city and his interactions with other characters including Lois Lane.
And in another big revelation, James Gunn clarified that Henry Cavill will not be essaying the role of Superman in this film. The news was later confirmed by Henry Cavill himself through his Instagram handle. Although Cavill’s future collaboration with DC is not ruled out yet. James Gunn and his team have still not finalized the new Superman movie’s director.
On being asked whether actor-director Ben Affleck, who earlier played the DC superhero Batman, could direct the new Superman movie, James Gunn stated that he wants Ben Affleck to direct a film, but they are still waiting for the right project. So, most likely, Ben Affleck won’t direct the Superman film.
Also, since the new Superman project is in early stages of development, which actor would play the role of the titular superhero is also currently not known.
James Gunn and Peter Safran are expected to share some important details about their upcoming DC slate during January next year. The latest update about the new Superman ‘early days’ movie has come on the heels of the update on Patty Jenkins’ ‘Wonder Woman 3’ not getting greenlit by the DC top brass. Now, it would be interesting to see what new projects James Gunn & Co. have in store for all DC fans.
Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman's life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill.
