The popular Japanese Manga series ‘Tiger Mask’ is getting a live-action adaptation very soon. Italy’s production house Fabula Pictures, Brandon Box and Japan’s Kodansha are adapting the series for the international market.
There is a reason behind this series being a joint production of Japan and Italy. ‘Tiger Mask’ is as popular in Italy as it is in Japan. Since its release in 1969 in the comics version, the titular protagonist Tiger Mask is considered a hero figure in Italy as well.
It tells the story of a boxing champion who won many heavy titles and made huge name in the U.S.A and now returns to Japan, his own country. After returning to his country, Tiger Mask uses his strength and power to fight against evil. A series was developed on the character previously. But now, this live action adaptation takes a different approach to the story.
This will be Fabula’s first venture into Manga adaptations. The production house had previously worked on projects like ‘Baby’ for Netflix, the biopic ‘Il Divin Codino’, ‘Time After Time’ and many others. The chairmen in Fabula have said, “This partnership with Brandon Box and Kodansha represents an important step in our company’s strategic positioning within the global audiovisual production scene.”
The Tiger Mask Manga was written by Ikki Kajiwara and illustrated by famous artist Naoki Tsuji. The names of actors or directors of the new live action adaptation habe not been revealed yet. But this is a very ambitious project and looking at the growing interest on Manga and anime, we can say that it will be pretty big in business too.
