Jared Leto and Amber Heard are joining Henry Cavill, Ray Fischer and the others on the set of ‘Zac Snyder’s Justice League’. Both actors were initially not part of the original film due to budgetary and run-time reasons. Both issues have been solved in its own way, but the inclusion of Jared Leto (who plays Joker) is a huge surprise.
Jared Leto’s Joker was one of the biggest critically panned performances in ‘Suicide Squad’. The David Ayer film was 10th highest grossing film of 2016, but the Anti-hero team up flick didn’t live up to audience’s expectations, especially for its extensive advertising of Jared Leto, who got less-than-15-minutes onscreen (which was more like an extended cameo). With the method actor known for his crazy dedication to a role, Suicide Squad was a big miss for the Academy Award winner.
It turns out, Suicide Squad actually had elements that tied in with the original Justice League film that Snyder had planned to make. David Ayer had written a script which had Enchantress use a Mother Box for her “doomsday plan”, and a flashback which showed Batman breaking all of Joker’s teeth after he murdered Robin. Both elements would have been brilliant as the first one would have set up for ‘Justice League’ while the second one would have tied up the previous film ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice’ while at the same time showed why Batman had broken his code of “not killing” and his inner-struggle in ‘Justice League’.
David Ayer himself said that his hands were tied when Warner Bros. swooped in and forced the edits. In his twitter post, a few days back, he admitted to taking “the hits like a soldier”. He also admitted to rewatching his own version in the same post and has called it “f*king amazing”. This post has gone on to gain so much traction that fans are calling for an “Ayer-Cut”.
Lucky for us, Snyder hasn’t missed this opportunity to include at least one of these elements and we are glad he is including this scene (hopefully, that is the case, but we are not complaining either way). Also, Jared Leto is a brilliant actor who didn’t deserve this Warner bros. treatment. Since the Snyder Cut is going to be a four-part episodic release, we hope to see a proper extended cameo of The Joker in this feature flick.
