Next week, Jayasurya’s upcoming Malayalam feature film, Sunny, will premiere, directly for streaming, on Amazon Prime Video. This movie will mark the actor’s 100th onscreen appearance and it is a positive statement for OTTs that an actor of his calibre will be releasing his milestone film, directly for streaming. While his first direct-to-OTT released film, which was also Mollywood’s first direct-to-OTT film, Amazon Prime Video’s Sufiyum Sujatayum, didnt do as well on the streaming platform as he would have hoped for, the Aadu actor will be looking at Sunny as his “rebound feature”.
Jayasurya has been a part of many major milestones in the Malayalam film industry. As we mentioned earlier, Sufiyum Sujatayum was the first Malayalam film to be released directly for streaming, which he was a part of. His 2021 theatrical release, Vellam, was the first Malayalam movie to premiere in Kerala theatres since the theatre lockdown was lifted by the State Government.
While Sufiyum Sujatayum wasn’t very good, Vellam was a much better flick. The actor will be hoping to bring some of his charismatic brilliance on the small screen through Sunny, which we have a feeling, will do a lot better on Amazon Prime than his first direct-to-OTT outing.
The teaser for this upcoming film was released yesterday. Jayasurya will be playing a singer/composer who is suffering from a “musical block”. His friends and family seems to be encouraging him, while he tries to claw himself back from the mental hole he seems to have found himself in.
The movie will drop in Amazon Prime Video on 23rd September 2021. Check out the teaser below:
