Tim Burton is back yet again with his dark creations and this time; he will be collaborating with Netflix to give a live action makeover to the beloved animated franchise The Addams Family.
But make no mistake, this time the story will be focused on the young adult and mysterious daughter of the family, Wednesday and probably that’s the reason why the name of the show would be ‘Wednesday’. Earlier yesterday, Jenna Ortega, who gained fame from her roles in Jane the Virgin and Stuck in the Middle, took to her social media to announce that she has been cast as the titular character for the Netflix series, directed by Tim Burton.
Those who are unfamiliar with The Addams Family franchise and Jenna Ortega, it’s an extremely beloved cartoon created by American cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938. Since then, it has been adapted into several cartoon series and films, most recently being the animated movie ‘The Addams Family’ in 2019. Now, if we talk about Ortega, she began her career as a child actor in Ironman 3 and Insidious: Chapter 2, she got wider recognition through ‘You’, ‘Stuck in the Middle’ and very recently, lending her voice for ‘Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous’.
Apart from Ortega, we have not yet received any other casting news but Burton along with former Smallville creator Alfred Gough and Miles Millar will be responsible for creating ‘Wednesday’. The story will revolved around the titular character who is a student in Nevermore Academy and she is about to discover her unique psychic ability to decode a 25 years old murder.
We are still awaiting the release date from Netflix but we are sure Wednesday will bring a fresh perspective and Tim Burton’s dark humor to the core of the series.
