Over 300 prominent Hollywood actors have signed a letter to SAG-AFTRA, urging them to reach a satisfactory resolution regarding a new contract negotiation with well-known Hollywood studios, production companies, and streaming platforms. All the actors have also threatened to strike unless this situation resolves fairly.
The letter was sent to the SAG-AFTRA Leadership and Negotiating Committee. It says, “A strike brings incredible hardships to so many, and no one wants it. But we are prepared to strike if it comes to that. And we are concerned by the idea that SAG-AFTRA members may be ready to make sacrifices that leadership is not.”
Several A-list Hollywood actors have signed the letter, including Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Kevin Bacon, Mark Ruffalo, Bob Odenkirk, Amy Schumer, Ben Stiller, Rami Malek, Eva Longoria, and more.
The ongoing contract will expire on June 30. The letter was sent days after SAG-AFTRA’s leaders revealed that their negotiations turned out “extremely productive” and they are “optimistic” about reaching a fair agreement with AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers).
SAG-AFTRA is yet to comment on this matter.
The members have raised concerns over numerous significant issues, including minimum compensation, healthcare and pension plans, and regulations regarding using self-taped auditions in the casting procedure. In addition, the letter sheds light on the members’ concerns and fears about using AI (Artificial Intelligence).
SAG-AFTRA has entered what could be the final week of negotiations for a new TV and film contract. Stay tuned for more updates.
