It’s a well-known fact that OTT platform Jio Cinema has been aggressively reinventing its content portfolio: right from streaming the massively popular IPL 2023 cricket tournament for free to acquiring premium HBO titles like ‘Succession’ and ‘House of the Dragon’, and later Peacock and Paramount+ global content, etc. Now, let’s see how many of the titles which streamed during the month of December clicked with the audience.

In the month of December 2023, just one major licensed film title was released on the OTT platform. It was ‘800’ – the biopic of the legendary Sri Lankan spin bowler Muttiah Muralitharan. Other than that, no major Indian licensed film title was released on the Jio Cinema streaming platform.
Web Series
On the web series front, in the month of December for Jio Cinema, one major web series namely ‘Fuh Se Fantasy Season-3’ was released on the OTT platform. The erotic romantic drama anthology series found its own audience despite its drawbacks.
Direct-to-OTT Films
As mentioned above, in the month of December 2023, Jio Cinema had three direct-to-OTT films which were released on the OTT platform. But none of them were able to create significant buzz and failed to attract streaming viewers in large numbers. Jio Cinema might be releasing these relatively small films to cater to a niche audience segment but perhaps the OTT giant should reevaluate its strategy while picking up films for this category.
Sports
The India Vs Australia Women’s ODI cricket series began streaming in the last week of December. Two matches have been played until now and the third one will be played on 2nd January 2024. Perhaps because Australia was leading 2-0 in the series, it didn’t create the required buzz on Jio Cinema.
Reality Shows
Like the last two months, the seventeenth season of the immensely popular ongoing reality show Bigg Boss once again turned out to be a Super-Hit for Jio Cinema in December. This season too is being hosted by superstar Salman Khan and features some popular celebrities and well-known people like Ankita Lokhande, Munawar Faruqui, and Jigna Vohra.
Another title which had some impact during the month was the Indian adaptation of the popular global reality dating show ‘Temptation Island India’ hosted by Mouni Roy and Karan Kundrra. The show seemed to have found its audience on OTT and it concluded on 14th December.
So, overall, there were three ‘Semi-Hits’, three ‘Misses’, one ‘Hit’, and one ‘Super-Hit’ for Jio Cinema for the month of December 2023. The main highlight which dominated the month of December once again on Jio Cinema was ‘Bigg Boss 17’.
