It’s been a tough time for Mumbai Film Festival for quite a while now. While the 2020 edition was cancelled, the 2021 one was pushed to March 2022 and now even that has moved online. This comes after the earlier news of its cancellation.
As per their social media post the 22nd Mumbai Film Festival will now be held digitally. The post reads, “Infinite possibilities are inherent in chaos. We had to sit out the March edition of the festival but are proud to announce the Indian lineup of the films today. Some of the titles out of the selection will be available across February and March on our partner platform @shift72vod. This might not be the beginner we wanted but it marks a start. The journey in unfurling the altering and evolving experience that viewing has become during the pandemic continues.”

As mentioned in the post the selected titles will stream on festival’s partner platform Shift 72. While the Covid situation is improving in Maharashtra, the move to take the festival online has led to disappointment for many who cannot make out the reason for the same.
With Priyanka Chopra coming on board as the new chairperson of the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival last year, the festival began a new chapter. The plans were to hold events throughout the year and concluding it with the main fest in March 2022.
But for now the festival is happening online and once again the pandemic is to blame.
