There’s a growing frustration among IPL fans who follow the matches with Hindi commentary. Many people are now starting to feel that the Hindi commentators are showing clear bias towards certain teams.
It’s not just once or twice; it’s happening in almost every match. The often undeserved praise and disregard of the team the commenter is not biased towards has become plenty evident. This kind of one-sided commentary is disappointing for a lot of fans who just want to enjoy the game fairly.
The onus falls on JioHotstar. The platform is responsible for the commentary it provides and there is a clear degradation of the quality of commentary. The platform is clearly causing audiences to grow weary of Hindi commentary, which is enjoyed by a huge chunk of audiences.
Thankfully the English commentary serves as a saving grace, as it is still sane. However, let’s acknowledge the fact that a lot of people are simply not comfortable with English commentary and they have every right to demand a good Hindi commentary.
Everyone wants their favourite players to do well, but when the commentators openly support only certain teams, it takes away the joy of watching. It no longer feels like commentary for everyone. It starts to feel like cheerleading for a select few.
It’s time JioHotstar pays attention. The love for the game should come before the love for a few names. Fans deserve better.
