Joaquin Phoenix’s decision to drop out at the very last minute of the untitled forthcoming Todd Haynes gay romance movie has sparked immense backlash in Hollywood. The Joker actor shockingly announced to quit the project last week. His departure came only five days before the film was scheduled to commence principal photography in Mexico. Now, the project is without its lead actor.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the producers may take strict legal action against Phoenix as they are reportedly “outraged” by the actor’s shocking decision. This is not the first time that the Academy Award-winning actor has caused trouble during filming. Some reports have also revealed that Phoenix threatened to leave Ridley Scott’s Napoleon unless Paul Thomas Anderson rewrote the script. Anderson is currently busy filming his next movie with Leonardo DiCaprio.
Phoenix’s last-minute withdrawal from the Todd Haynes movie will surely piss off many Hollywood producers and directors, who may not work with the actor in the future. Moreover, the talks of Hollywood production houses blackballing Phoenix are going on as well, a scenario that could seriously deteriorate his career and image in Hollywood.
It’s unclear if Joaquin Phoenix will face financial consequences for abandoning the project. His next film, the highly anticipated “Joker: Folie à Deux,” is set for a worldwide release on October 4th. Stay tuned for more updates.
