Veteran Chinese filmmaker John Woo is set for his Hollywood directorial comeback in an action film titled ‘Silent Night’ starring ‘Suicide Squad’ star Joel Kinnaman (via Deadline). A unique aspect about this film, and as the title rather suggests, is that the film would not have any dialogues in it. ‘Silent Night’ would mark a much-awaited return of John Woo to Hollywood as he last directed Ben Affleck in the sci-fi actioner ‘Paycheck’ way back in the year 2003.
While the film’s precise plot has not been revealed, it is currently known that the story revolves around a father who ventures into the underworld to avenge the death of his son. However, considering John Woo’s penchant for highly stylized and aesthetically choreographed action films, ‘Silent Night’ would ostensibly be a visually opulent action extravaganza.
Besides Joel Kinnaman, the film’s other cast members are yet to be confirmed. The Swedish American actor is known for his roles in television series ‘The Killing’, ‘Altered Carbon’, 2014 ‘Robocop’ remake, and more recently in James Gunn’s ‘Suicide Squad’. The actor’s likable screen presence combined with John Woo’s distinguished filmmaking style will certainly be a treat for action movie aficionados.
Although revenge themed action movies is an age-old Hollywood sub-genre, but with John Woo at the helm in his Hollywood comeback, some interesting fireworks are bound to happen. John Woo’s repertoire of cinematic works include some popular Hong Kong action films such as ‘The Killer’, ‘A Better Tomorrow’, and ‘Hard Boiled’.
While John Woo’s Hollywood action movies portfolio boasts of films like Van Damme’s ‘Hard Target’, military action thriller ‘Broken Arrow’ starring John Travolta and Christian Slater, ‘Face/Off’ starring Nicolas Cage and John Travolta, and the second ‘Mission: Impossible’ movie starring Tom Cruise, amongst other films.
Currently, the release date and other details about John Woo’s dialogue-less Hollywood comeback action film ‘Silent Night’ starring Joel Kinnaman are not known. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on the film.
