The trailer for the upcoming Indian Tamil-English action thriller ‘Jagame Thandhiram’ dropped on YouTube a couple of days ago and it looks epic. The production is top notch, the editing in the trailer is nuts and the direction is almost Wes Anderson-like during some parts. What is even more astonishing is that the film trailer dropped on the official YouTube page of Netflix – which means that it is now officially releasing on Netflix, later this month (the official announcement was months back, this just makes it “more official” in everyone’s eyes). Dhanush looks ready to roll, the few glimpses of Aishwarya Lekshmi and James Cosmo makes us want to watch the film right now – but there was another surprise in the form of a pivotal role for the Malayalam superstar, Joju George.
We knew Joju George was part of the cast of ‘Jagame Thandhiram’ for some time now, but we only got to know the size of the role, once the trailer dropped on social media. As a general rule of thumb, almost every Malayalam actor who crosses over to other South Indian film industries is wasted in huge superstar hero films, and they usually take a hit to their popularity in that language. But this trailer has shown us something completely different and we are getting very excited.
In a recent interview, the actor said that he only looks at two things before taking up a role – the director and the film script. This is what attracted him to ‘Jagame Thandhiram’. An actor, not known for his looks, Joju was stuck playing supporting characters for a long time, in Mollywood. However, after his brilliant performance in ‘Joseph’, Joju’s career trajectory changed and he has impressed us with some brilliant character acting, ever since. He has become quite popular among non-Malayalam speakers as well and we feel that he has finally got a fitting role in this Tamil outing.
And Joju George isn’t the only Malayalam actor enjoying this rise in South Indian film trajectory either. Fahadh Faasil was recently added to the cast of the Telugu thriller film, ‘Pushpa’ as the antagonist. ‘Pushpa’ will also feature a superstar actor in the form of Allu Arjun, but with Fahadh’s pedigree, we expect him to have received a brilliant role to portray on screen. For now, we will just have to wait and see as both films drop.
‘Jagame Thandhiram’ will premiere on Netflix on 18th June 2021. Check out the trailer again, down below.
