The weekend is coming up and so is our list of OTT releases that will release this weekend and which you may watch on various Indian OTT platforms. This weekend’s highlight for Indian audiences is a unique initiative taken by popular streaming platform Voot as its ‘Voot Select Film Fest’ will be premiering on the platform tomorrow. The film festival will be held from 24th July until 31st July 2021.
The festival’s opening film would be Vidya Balan’s ‘Natkhat’ that will be available for streaming on its opening date i.e., 24th July. The next film to be released on 25th July would be ‘Shuruaat Ka Twist’ starring actors like Neena Gupta, Amit Sial, and Chunky Pandey, amongst others. Here is a brief description of the list of OTT weekend releases that you can watch this weekend.
Natkhat (Streaming on Voot Select ; 24th July)
The critically acclaimed short film features Bollywood actress Vidya Balan who essays the role of a mother who teaches her seven-year-old son Sonu about gender equality in a predominantly patriarchal society after the boy casually confesses a horrible act that he committed. The film has a runtime of about 33 minutes.
Shuruaat Ka Twist (Streaming on Voot Select ; 25th July)
It’s an anthology of six short films made by upcoming filmmakers who were mentored by some big names in the Indian film industry namely Rajkumar Hirani, Raj Kumar Gupta, Amit Masurkar & Vikramaditya Motwane. These shorts vary in their genres and premise. The stories range from a music director’s attempt to revive his career, a psychological thriller, a story about a housewife, a dark comedy, and an LGBTQ love story, etc.
Judas and the Black Messiah (Streaming on Amazon Prime Video ; 25th July)
The double Academy Award-winning film was also a critics darling after its release earlier this year. Directed by Shaka King and featuring Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield in the lead roles, the film how William O’Neal becomes an FBI informant to betray and infiltrate the Chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party Fred Hampton.
Besides these films, the 2019 Malayalam film titled ‘1956, Central Travancore’ will start streaming on the Mubi OTT platform from 24th July onwards. The film revolves around an illegal gaur hunting trip by a group that is in need of some quick money.
