July 2025 is shaping up to be the biggest month for Hollywood in terms of box office collections, with Jurassic World Rebirth (July 2), Superman (July 11), and The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25) all set to hit theatres. Without further ado, let’s take a closer look at these upcoming box-office juggernauts.
The latest trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth suggests that the seventh entry in the franchise will be scarier, darker, and more exhilarating than its predecessors. Another element that adds freshness is its premise—this instalment leans more toward adventure rather than focusing heavily on the large-scale destruction caused by dinosaurs, as seen in the Jurassic World trilogy.
Scarlett Johansson herself is enough to pull a large crowd to the theatres. She is already one of the highest-grossing actors, and her global prominence will surely help Rebirth mint an impressive collection. Other talents in the movie, such as Mahershala Ali and Rupert Friend, are the cherry on top for Universal.
Another factor that favours the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies is their enduring popularity. Over 32 years have passed since Steven Spielberg opened the doors of Jurassic Park to audiences worldwide. Since then, people have continued to enjoy the ride, even if it has hit noticeable bumps with Jurassic Park III (2001) and Jurassic World Dominion (2022).
Now, let’s shift our attention to the second big release of July 2025: James Gunn’s Superman, starring David Corenswet as the Last Son of Krypton. While a noticeable portion of the DC fanbase still craves Henry Cavill’s return as Superman, it’s about time we accept that we may never see Cavill don the cape again.
Change happens, and it is necessary. Yes, it is necessary! Cavill may return in the future in some sort of multiversal or Flashpoint story in the DCU, but for now, we must focus on Corenswet.
The first Superman trailer did not reveal too much, but it was enough to give us hope that Gunn’s version of the Man of Steel will be great. Most importantly, it looks like it will do justice to the character’s comic book roots, what he represents, and what he truly means to people.
Superman will be the first major theatrical release of the DCU, and it has all the hype in the world behind it. Based on the mostly positive reactions to the movie’s first trailer, we should expect it to perform exceptionally well at the box office. With Gunn behind the camera, our hopes are sky-high for this one.
July 2025 will conclude with Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps. This Matt Shakman project has been the talk of the town ever since Kevin Feige announced it at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019.
The new trailer for the movie already suggests that the MCU’s 37th feature film will be significantly better and grander than previous Fantastic Four adaptations by 20th Century Fox.
Tim Story’s Fantastic Four (2005) featured some solid action sequences and entertaining moments, but its story was a major letdown for many fans. While the primary cast looked decent, Julian McMahon’s portrayal of Victor Von Doom came across as cheesy and bland. However, the movie was a box office success—enough for Fox to greenlight a sequel.
Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007) was marginally better than its 2005 predecessor, yet it remained a juvenile effort from Story. The film suffered significantly from its overly simplistic tone, despite featuring large-scale and supremely powerful characters like the Silver Surfer and Galactus.
Another Fantastic Four adaptation arrived in 2015, aiming to reboot the franchise, but it failed both miserably and spectacularly. To this day, fans strongly believe that Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four was nothing more than an abomination to the entire superhero genre.
Based on what we’ve seen so far of First Steps, this Matt Shakman project already looks far superior to previous Fantastic Four adaptations. With its 1960s futuristic setting, comic-accurate blue-and-white costumes, perfect casting, grand scale, high-stakes storytelling, and an underlying sense of hope and optimism, First Steps has it all.
The planet-devouring Galactus (voiced by Ralph Ineson) is set to wreak havoc on a 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic Earth, forcing the Fantastic Four to team up and save the planet from this notorious and colossal cosmic entity.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps also benefits from a strong cast, featuring Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us), Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One), Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear).
